25 Years in a Holding Pattern
Obsequious, reverential, timorous, servile, demure, fanciful words such as these make no representation of the beloved Mother Dorothy Moseley. Fanciful words put to shame a woman who embodies HUMILITY. More befitting terms bear representation of her soul—modest—lowly—simple—content—fearful—obliging—grateful. Mother Dorothy Moseley personifies humbleness and makes no haste in uttering her love for the Lord and His word.
For 25 years, Mother Moseley patiently tarried for the gift of the Holy Ghost. Who better to be held in wait for proof of the power of the Lord’s Anointed? God’s infinite wisdom selected the perfect soul that would be temperate and gracious while in a holding pattern for the long-awaited promise. As she always says, “I love this one and only true plan of salvation.”
From the start of her apostolic journey and throughout the years with Apostles S. McDowell Shelton and Nehemiah, she never charged God foolishly as she repeatedly sought the gift of speaking in an unknown tongue as evidence of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:4). The day God visited Apostle Patterson, February 22, 1994, he asked the Lord how he would prove to the saints that he was chosen by God—it would be led by the spirit, as Nehemiah had said, and the gift of the Holy Ghost would fall by the laying on of his hands, specifically Mother Dorothy (Acts 19). As God would have it, Mother Dorothy and her sister, Sis. Daisy Rivera, visited his home to speak with him shortly after word spread that God visited him. Sis. Daisy explained that she needed to know for herself that she had the Holy Ghost, while Mother Dorothy humbly said that she needed the Holy Ghost.
The next day, they went to church to pray and tarry. Apostle Patterson touched Sis. Daisy first and she began to speak in tongues. Moments later, with his touch—as a seal of his Apostleship—Mother Dorothy began to speak in tongues!
Her manifestation of the Holy Ghost was twofold. Mother Moseley’s testimony is a profound memorial because not only was it evidence of God’s Anointed still remaining in earth, but places a face on the act of “patience having her perfect work”, resilience in continuing movement no matter how long it takes, and unyielding fervor in God and His word (James 1:4).
